Present Cotton Scenario

Government of India fixed a support price for cotton for the season 2023-24, around 8 to 10% more than that of last season. Due to the market conditions, It was essential to the nodal agency of Government of India to enter into the market in the interest of cotton growers. Along with CCI, MSCCGMFL is Nodal Agency of Government of India for the procurement of Cotton under MSP.
In Maharashtra cotton sawing area is an approximate of 42 lacs hector area and a production of 400 lacs qntls cotton (80 lacs bales). Due to substatial hike in the market, as earlier crop season 2021-22 and 2022-23, in 2023-24 also there was no MSP procurement by MSCCGMFL. Cotton Corporation of India has open 109 procurement centers and out of that, raw cotton was procured in only 74 centers. It vitnesed that, farmers are not interested to sell the produce under MSP and expecting higher price than MSP.
